The emailed press release with the announcement came with no fanfare. It simply said: USPS resumes postal operations in Fort Myers Beach.

But if you live on or near Fort Myers Beach and if you are keeping track of Southwest Florida's comeback from Hurricane Ian, then this news is a big deal.

On Sept. 28, 2022 the powerful Category 4 Ian slammed the region and Fort Myers Beach took the brunt of the historic storm. People were killed. Buildings were destroyed. That includes the post office at 200 Carolina Ave. which the press release said resumed operations on Tuesday (July 2).

Since January of 2023, postal customers had been picking up their mail at a temporary facility (trailer) in the post office parking lot.

Hours of operation: reopened Fort Myers Beach post office

The retail hours of operation are:

    • 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Closed on Saturday and Sunday.
    • P.O. Box customers may pick up their mail 24 hours a day.

The USPS added that it "apologized for any inconvenience our valued customers may have experienced, and appreciates their patience as we completed the necessary repairs."
