OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The Okaloosa County Sherriff’s Office has charged a man with sexual battery on a 14-year-old.

Following an investigation, Kevin Mauricio Escobar Munoz, 20, was arrested on Wednesday. Munoz is from Honduras and is in the country illegally, OCSO officials said.

According to authorities, on April 21 the victim awoke in her home in Fort Walton Beach shortly before 7 a.m. to an unknown Hispanic male assaulting her. A medical examination showed a positive finding for sexual abuse, investigators wrote in a release.

On July 11, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the male DNA profile which matched the contributing male sample from the victim’s sexual assault kit belonged to Escobar Munoz. Investigators also found that Munoz was living within one mile of the victim’s residence.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Munoz was deported in September of 2022.

Munoz was also charged with burglary for forcing entry into the victim’s residence and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail.
