As Philadelphians step out into the early glow of what promises to be a luminous day, they're greeted by the gentle conditions that precede the festive fervor of Independence Day. The National Weather Service informs us that the day will unfold under a mostly sunny sky, with a comfortable high of 87 degrees and a tempering south wind moving at a mild 5 to 10 mph. But tonight's partly cloudy spell, with temperatures hovering around 68, is just a prelude to the forecasted variability we are to expect in the coming days.
Ambler police remind public on curfew for minors
The Borough of Ambler Police Department recently issued a reminder that the borough has a curfew ordinance impacting those under 18 years of age. From the notice:. We would like to Remind parents and guardians that the Borough of Ambler has a curfew ordinance that the Police Department enforces. A minor, who is a person under the age of eighteen, may not remain in a public place and or vehicle without being accompanied by a parent or guardian or a person having legal custody of that minor during certain evening and early morning hours. The restricted hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. On Friday night and Saturday night the curfew is 12 a.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. There are exceptions to the Curfew Ordinance for juveniles who are traveling to and from work during the restricted hours. If you have any further questions please see the Ambler Borough’s Website.
CITY COUNCIL’S HOUSING COMMITTEE APPROVES REGULATING FOR-PROFIT EVICTIONS
The Angel Davis Eviction Accountability Bill, named for the woman who was shot last year by a private contractor of the LTO, sets new standards for evictions in Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA – Today, Bill No. 240018, known as the Angel Davis Eviction Accountability Bill, passed out of City Council’s Committee on Housing, Neighborhood Development, and the Homeless. The bill, authored by Minority Leader Kendra Brooks, provides accountability and oversight for the landlord-tenant officer (LTO), the for-profit law firm whose private contractors shot two women during evictions last year. The bill will now be considered by the entire City Council and is eligible for final passage as soon as Thursday, June 13th.

The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking assistance from the community in the search for Sandra McCoy, a 14-year-old girl reported missing from the 24th District. She was last seen on the afternoon of July 1st around 5:00 pm near the 18xx block of E Pacific St. According to the police report, Sandra is described as standing 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing approximately 85 pounds, and has burgundy hair and brown eyes. She is also noted to have a Pandora bracelet, and features both nose and ear piercings.
Water main break floods part of Oregon Avenue in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Part of Oregon Avenue in Philadelphia was inaccessible Wednesday after a water main break, fire dispatchers confirmed.The street was closed between 24th Street and 21st Street due to water in the road Wednesday morning. Later a lane opened up for drivers to get by.Members of the Philadelphia Fire Department are on the scene.A spokesperson for the Philadelphia Water Department said a 12-inch water main broke this morning at 23rd Street and Oregon Avenue. Crews shut down the main just after 7 a.m., impacting four properties, the spokesperson added.The department is also investigating another possible water main break in North Philadelphia.This is a developing story and will be updated.

Tomorrow I will have the distinct honor (honour?) of reading the Declaration of Independence at an American Revolutionary War site hallowed by the blood of 200 patriots. The site is Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia. It sits on the banks of the Delaware River just south of the city and adjacent to a very busy airport; in fact, you fly only a few hundred feet over it when you land at PHL. And while it is overflown, it is overlooked as a site that bills itself as “The Little Fort That Saved America,” it’s the Revolution’s “Alamo,” if you will.
