FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – More than halfway through the TinCaps’ season, first-year manager Mike Daly is learning something new every day in the dugout.

Daly traded his front office job as the Padres’ Assistant Director of Player Development for the TinCaps’ manager ahead of this season.

“When you get in the dugout, it’s very fast,” Daly said. “There’s a lot of decisions that have to be made. It’s a great learning experience for me.”

In the blink of an eye, Daly and the TinCaps are already more than three months into the season. While the TinCaps are 32-46 overall as of Thursday’s, there have been flashes of brilliance from some of the top prospects on the team. Ethan Salas, the Padres top prospect and sixth best in baseball, was recently named to this month’s MLB Futures Game. Other prospects like Homer Bush Jr. and Emmanuel Pinales have also had some web gem moments at Parkview Field.

Looking ahead, Daly hopes the development of this year’s team continues to trend in the right direction. He also hopes that coincides with a playoff push in the second half of the season.

The TinCaps await their biggest crowd of the season on Thursday night for the Fourth of July. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with fireworks to follow.
