FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After three seasons with Ryan Abbott, it appears Carroll boys basketball is charging ahead with Chris Benedict as their new head coach.

Benedict is expected to be approved as Carroll’s head boys basketball coach at Northwest Allen County Schools’ upcoming board meeting on Monday.

Benedict has over three decades of experience as a head coach. In 32 seasons, Benedict has an overall record of 461-284, the 13th winningest active head coach in the Hoosier state. He has coached at several northeast Indiana programs, including Columbia City, Bluffton and his most recent stop at Whitko. In four seasons with the Wildcats, Benedict earned an overall record of 50-45.

The new head coach steps in after the recent departure of Abbott. Following three seasons with the Chargers, Abbott accepted a superintendent role with DeKalb Eastern Schools.
