FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – In a move that’s been widely speculated in Summit City sports circles since Ryan Abbott stepped down earlier this month , Chris Benedict was officially hired as the head boys basketball coach at Carroll High School during Monday’s Northwest Allen County Schools board meeting.

Benedict heads to Carroll with a lengthy and impressive resume. He’ll be entering his 33rd season as a head coach in the state of Indiana. His 461 career wins rank him 13th among active boys basketball coaches in Indiana.

Benedict has spent the last four seasons at Whitko. He previously coached at Columbia City (two stints), Bluffton, Valparaiso, and Wapahani.

Abbott led Carroll for three seasons before stepping away to take the superintendent position at DeKalb Eastern Schools. He went 25-46 with the Chargers, including a mark of 11-14 last season.
