FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Rifle and trap shooting are only considered club sports in the state of Indiana. However, the Carroll Chargers are on target in recent months.

In their inaugural season, Carroll’s new shotgun squad swept three state championships in a span of two months. In June, the Chargers won a team title at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) state championships. Last week, Carroll also won a team title at the AIM Trapshooting Championships in Fortville. Finally, Carroll turned the page quickly to earn a third team title at the Youth ATA Trapshooting championships.

Led by recent grad Xander New, Carroll is proving there is no beginner’s luck with this squad. New is committed to compete in shotgun sports at Lindenwood University.

Meanwhile, Carroll’s rifle team also won a state title recently. The Chargers swept all three disciplines at the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association Junior Championships.
