Eight puppies are now recovering after being left for dead in a Texas field with temperatures soaring up to 100 degrees.

Now the puppies are in a shelter and are doing well according to Tarrant County Sheriff Office (TSCO). In a post, the sheriff's office said a litter of eight puppies was left in a field inside a carrier with no water on Monday.

With North Texas heat reaching triple digits, the puppies were in grave danger of overheating and dying. TCSO said a Good Samaritan called them to rescue the dogs , posting to Facebook showing pictures of the rescued puppies inside the patrol car.

Following the dogs’ initial rescue, Fort Worth Animal Control took the litter in. It was later announced that all eight dogs would be available for adoption this week, according to TCSO.

TSCO’s Facebook said that on Monday, a “ litter of puppies were left in a field inside a carrier with no water on a 100° day.” It added that a “ good Samaritan called it in and Fort Worth Animal control took over all 8 from us. The office then said that pending medical exams the puppies would be “up for adoption this week”.

The post, which garnered over 500 likes, also attracted a slew of comments protesting the dogs’ treatment. One commenter, Tony Leland said “This makes me sick! Why would you do this”

Another, by the name of Kaci Bunker urged the office to find the people responsible for the dumping. She said: “Y’all should figure out who left them for dead LOCKED up and do something about it. To not be able to care for thing is one thing and there are shelters they can take the dogs to. But to lock them in a carrier outside in this heat is cruel and a slow death.” She added “That’s not okay.”

Megan Murphy said Dallas Fort Worth has “got to do something about the population problem and the shelters overflowing.” She added: “People need to start being fined more, charged for abuse, and held accountable for backyard breeding.”

Charlie Geer said: “The same needs to be done to the POS that did this.. I hope they are reading this and see how inhumane they are! If they can leave puppies like this to die.. they have no love or respect for anyone else either!!!”
