Hundreds of millions of dollars spent on delivering internet service yet large gaps remain
Since 2019, Wisconsin has allocated more than $345 million in state and federal funds to expand high-speed internet in the state, yet there are still more than 181,000 locations without service, according to a 2024 Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access report released Thursday. The funding will support new and improved service for more than 410,000 homes and businesses, but more work remains to close access gaps, the report noted. ...
Scuba diver, 70, dies attempting to explore shipwreck near Michigan's Isle Royale National Park
(CBS DETROIT) - A 70-year-old Wisconsin man has died while scuba diving in Lake Superior near the Isle Royale National Park.According to the National Park Service, John Nousaine, of Superior, Wisconsin, was exploring the Emperor shipwreck, a 525-foot steel bulk freighter that sank in 1947. The area of the shipwreck is between 100 to 150 feet.Officials say Nousaine's family has been notified.The Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office and medical examiner are investigating the incident.According to NPS' website, the Emperor struck Canoe Rocks off Isle Royale on June 4, 1947, sinking in about 30 minutes. Three officers and nine crew members died in the sinking.
Faribault's Halvorson, 56, earns 2nd in Minnesota bodybuilding competition
Scott Halvorson is no stranger to the gym, but he recently decided to do something he hasn’t done in over 20 years: compete in bodybuilding. Halvorson, who lives in Faribault, competed in the National Physique Committee (NPC) Twin Cities Open on Saturday, July 13. Davenport Iowa Man Arrested in Grant County for Operating while Intoxicated
At around 9:00 pm on 7/21/24, Grant County Dispatch received a 911 call about a three-vehicle crash located south of the City of Boscobel. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and identified Frank M. Klee, a 55-year-old from Davenport, IA, as the driver who lost control of his vehicle and collided with a guardrail. This caused his vehicle to block traffic, resulting in two other vehicles, a 2023 Honda driven by Jordan Powers and a 2013 Dodge Caravan driven by Grace Ideker, to collide and sustain significant damage while trying to avoid the blockage.
