UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 7/3/2024 8:03 p.m.
(FOUNTAIN, Colo.) — A suspect who barricaded himself inside a home on Main Street in Fountain was taken into custody after a five hour standoff, according to the Fountain Police Department (FPD).
FPD said the situation began around noon when a man walked into the police station in Fountain to report that he had just been assaulted by another man. The other man, 41-year-old David Stewart Jr., had a felony warrant for Second Degree Kidnapping out of Larimer County.
Stewart was reportedly still at the home where the assault happened, so FPD officers responded to that location but were unsuccessful making contact with Stewart. At that point, FPD issued the shelter in place notification for neighbors in the area.
FPD’s Rapid Response Team arrived to take over the situation, and after five hours of attempting to negotiate with Stewart, he was finally taken into custody. FPD said he will be booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on his outstanding Kidnapping warrant, as well as new felony Assault charges.
FPD is asking anyone with information or who may be a witness to this investigation to contact the FPD tip line at (719) 382-6918. To remain anonymous, contact the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or go online to CrimeStop.net . If your information leads to a felony arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
