FOUR OAKS — Authorities on Sunday found the bodies of a man and woman inside a burning house at 1224 Scout Road, Four Oaks. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

But the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said it was seeking no suspects, suggesting that either the man or woman had shot the other, set the house on fire and then died by suicide.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the dead as Kyle Trabel, 33, and Miriah Woody, 39. The two were dating, the Sheriff’s Office said.

On Sunday morning, Trabel’s family called the Sheriff’s Office and asked deputies to conduct a wellness check on him at his home on Scout Road.

When they arrived, deputies saw smoke and called for a fire department. Inside the house, firefighters found the bodies of Trabel and Woody in the main bedroom. Her body was on the bed.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Caldwell said the bodies had been taken to Chapel Hill for autopsies.

The investigation is ongoing, he said.
