CARTHAGE, MO – Carthage High School hosted a Softball Jamboree this afternoon with Nevada, Carl Junction, and Joplin participating.

Each team played each other one time with a duration of a three inning game. The start time of 5:00pm was delayed by an hour due to the extreme heat conditions.

Starting right at 6:00pm in Game 1, Carl Junction took on Carthage and the hosts took care of business early.

The Tigers got the bats going with Jenna Calhoon ripping a shot right up the middle of second base and shortstop. She would send home Ashlyn Brust to give Carthage their first run of the inning.

Later on, Brust stepped up to the plate and hit a lazier shot of her own into the left center gap. Aven Willis was the runner on base wheeling around third and heading home for another run. The team would go on to put up three total runs in the first inning.

Carl Junction went scoreless in the first but defense was what kept them in the game down the stretch.

Kady Hunt over on at shortstop for the Bulldogs made a number of plays to keep runners from advancing and preventing runs batted in.

Jumping over to Game 2, the Joplin Eagles took on the Nevada Tigers.

Starting things off, Kaleiah Johnson hits a grounder on over to Joplin’s Taylor Love at shortstop and she makes the play to first to stop a runner from scoring. That concluded the first inning and set the defensive tone for the Eagles moving forward.

Joplin got behind the plate next with Ava Wolf hitting a grounder to short and beating the ball to the bag for a base hit.

Next, Nevada hit the field to spark a defensive momentum of their own.

Lily Glover popped a high fly ball up to third and Addison Mclnroy tracked it down to get the Lady Tigers defense going.

Capping things off to end the inning, Pitcher Peyton Eaton wiped one into the strike zone for strike three as both teams went scoreless throughout the first two innings.

All four programs will officially kick off their seasons at the start of September.
