    Spanish Fork Canyon closed for several hours after semi crash, fuel spill

    UTAH COUNTY — A crash between two semi-trucks caused a significant fuel spill in Spanish Fork Canyon, and U.S. Highway 6 was closed for several hours.

    Sometime around 5 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol said the two trucks crashed on US-6 about a mile west of Thistle. All lanes were blocked by the wreckage, and UHP said about 6,000 gallons of fuel were leaking from one of the trucks.

    Photos from the scene show a Maverik tanker with large holes on the side. The other semitrailer was on its side.

    The highway remained closed in both directions until the scene and spill were cleaned up. Traffic on US-6 was diverted onto US-89 at the Thistle junction.

    The closure was lifted by about 11 p.m.

    UHP officials said one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

    Earlier Sunday, there was another crash between two semi-trucks. UHP officials said one truck driver died after rear-ending the other, and then rolling .
