A 10-year-old boy from Layton was hit and killed by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in nearby Clearfield over the weekend.

The boy was headed south on Chelemes Way on Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound on 1900 South. According to the Clearfield Police Department, the vehicle had just started moving from a 4-way intersection stop when the boy tried to cross the street on his bike.

The North Davis Fire Department and Clearfield police responded to the scene and helped treat the boy until he was transported to a nearby hospital.

While in the hospital, the boy's condition worsened and he later died due to his injuries.

Leanna Jenkins lives on the corner and said the intersection has been a neighborhood concern far before Saturday's tragedy.

"It's really scary and something needs to happen. I don't know if it's putting speed bumps in, having more patrols, both, but something needs to happen," she said.

Two memorials are starting to form at the intersection poles. Someone left behind wooden baseballs and a "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" ribbon, suggesting the Layton boy loved America's Favorite Pastime.

"He's just a little boy. It's not right," said Jenkins.

"They're kids, and kids are impulsive and they don't always watch as well as we would like them to," she added. "It's so important that we teach them and work with them so they understand how important it is."

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained on the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. No charges have been filed against the driver as of yet.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to help the victim's family identifies him as Dom Boudrero.
