TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — A wildfire broke out Saturday afternoon near the border of Tooele County and Juab County, forcing some residents and campers to evacuate.

State wildfire officials said the "Boulter Fire" was first discovered around 1:30 p.m. along State Route 36. It's located about three miles north of the county line.

The fire quickly spread due to strong winds in the area. Officials said the wind pushed it eastward into the Tintic Mountains north of Eureka.

SR-36 was closed between mileposts 3 and 11 but has since reopened.

State officials said evacuations took place for residents along the highway between Vernon and Eureka. The Utah County Sheriff's Office added that some campgrounds were also evacuated. The evacuations were lifted Sunday.

By Saturday night, officials said the fire's growth had slowed, possibly even stopped. On Sunday, it was still at 2,300 acres.

Salt Lake City Police added that although the fire wasn't near the city, residents may see or smell smoke in the air because of the fire as the wind blew in their direction.
