    Labor Day weekend events in & around central Arkansas

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansans looking to take advantage of the three-day Labor Day weekend can find things to do Labor Day weekend as summer draws to a close.

    Events run the gamut from outdoor and active to indoor and laid pack.

    Traveling over Labor Day weekend? Have a back-up plan for cancellations and delays, and be patient

    Check out the list and see if there’s something there to keep you entertained:

    All weekend

    National Championship Chuckwagon Races in Clinton. This is a chance to immerse yourself in cowboy culture and watch men, women and families visit and wrangle the best out of their horses & mules. A big crowd with lots of horses, bring sunscreen and a chair.

    The Arkansas Renaissance Festival is at Dragonstone Springs in Mount Vernon. It starts on Saturday with the opening weekend and includes Tea with the Queen on Sunday and Monday. The former is an experience of knights and ladies and the culture of a long-past era, and the latter is also that, but it features high-end tea and foods “perfect for a relaxing break.”

    Rector Labor Day Picnic in Rector. The largest event of the year for this northeast Arkansas city, including a golf tournament, lots of live music, pageants and a community getting together for the three-day weekend.

    Eureka Springs has events going on all weekend, especially live music , all around town. The weekend begins on Friday with a free concert by The Nighttimers in Basin Park, followed by Casey & The Atta’ Boys in the park on Saturday and Stringed Union on Sunday in what’s billed as family-friendly events.

    Clothesline Fair at the Prarie Grove Battlefield State Park in Prarie Grove. This northwest Arkansas event features vendors, square dancing and live music hosted by the Prarie Grove Lions Club in what’s become a tradition in the area.

    What to know about Labor Day and its history

    Friday, Aug. 30

    Sunset Kayak Tour at Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs. A chance for an interpreter-guided tour to watch the sunset behind the mountains from a peaceful lake perch. 5 p.m.

    Saturday, Aug. 31

    Family Fishing Derby at Crowley’s Ridge State Park Walcott Fishing Pier with prizes for each age group. Fishing poles are available to borrow and bait is available for a fee at the visitor’s center. Bring a chair, water, sunscreen and other supplies you may need. 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

    Rock the Vote in Grant County , at the Sheridan courthouse , as candidates make stump speeches and voters have a chance to interact and, of course, register to vote. 8 a.m. to noon

    Go Outside and Play at Davidsonville Historic State Park in Mountain Pine, as an interpreter walks guests through the games of the 1820s when toys weren’t mass-produced. You may come and go throughout the event. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

    Arkansas Reggae Fest 2024 in the Argenta Arts District , North Little Rock, featuring food, crafts vendors and of course reggae music through 10:30 p.m. 8 p.m.

    Music Downtown at Sundown in Russellville’s downtown historic districts featuring live music by Midnight South. 8 p.m.

    Labor Day travel: Plan ahead — and be nice

    Sunday, Sept. 1

    Hot Springs annual Labor Day Fireworks Display on Lake Hamilton as fireworks are fired from a barge anchored in the lake’s center. US97 County will have music synced to the display on 97.5 FM. Free. The rain date is Sept. 2. 9 p.m.

    Cedar Falls Overlook Stroll at Petit Jean State Park in Morrilton as you join a park interpreter for an easy, handicap accessible 1/4-mile stroll and enjoy the view of Cedar Falls. 11:30 a.m. to noon

    Arkansas gas prices see decline ahead of Labor Day travel
