Official: Crawford County smoke mistaken for tornado

CRWAFORD COUNTY, Mo. – Cameras have spotted activity in a tornado-warned area that initially looked as if it could resemble a tornado, but instead turned out to be smoke.

Around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, a camera from MoDOT captured movement near Cuba, Missouri. At the time, there was at least one tornado warning nearby in Crawford and Franklin counties near Sullivan.

FOX 2 checked with a local park ranger in the area, who tells us the movement was smoke rather than that of tornadic activity.

Expect tornado-warned storms in the St. Louis region through the late afternoon hours on Wednesday in the St. Louis metro. Stay alert for weather updates . We will update as more information becomes available.
