EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A Collinsville, Illinois, man was convicted of child sex crimes on Wednesday following a bench trial in Madison County Circuit Court.

Markki L. Edmonson, 48, was found guilty of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of criminal sexual assault.

The assaults took place between Jan. 1, 2016, and Feb. 14, 2018, while the victim was between 9 and 13 years of age.

Prosecutors with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office said the victim eventually made a report with a school social worker, culminating in Edmonson’s arrest.

Edmonson will be sentenced at a later date. He faces between six and 60 years on each count of predatory sexual assault of a child and four to 15 years for criminal sexual assault. These counts do not allow for probation and carry mandatory consecutive sentences. This means Edmonson faces a minimum 28-year prison sentence.
