Senator Schmitt advocates for St. Louis as geospatial tech hub

ST. LOUIS – Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt is looking to transform St. Louis into the nation’s “defense technology capital.” He hosted a meeting with a little over 25 industry leaders in geospatial technologies on Monday, where he announced the National Geospatial Innovation Hub Advancement Act.

Through the act, the Taylor Geospatial Institute and other research universities would be funded to help develop a skilled geospatial workforce in St. Louis.

Schmitt explained why he thinks the new technology would be a perfect fit for the St. Louis region.

“St. Louis already has the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which is building a new campus and working to revitalize a St. Louis neighborhood, private investment through the Taylor Geospatial Institute, and other private and public geospatial assets,” Scmitt said. “There’s no reason to believe that St. Louis can’t become the geospatial hub of the country, and I’m working to accomplish that exact goal.”

St. Louis is currently home to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, which is opening a new $1.7 billion headquarters in north St. Louis in 2025.
