O’FALLON, Ill. – An off-duty O’Fallon officer and other Good Samaritans jumped into action to rescue a driver Saturday after a medical emergency.

Authorities credit the quick-thinking actions of the off-duty officer and others for saving the driver’s life.

The O’Fallon Police Department says the driver suffered a medical emergency while in his vehicle on W Hwy 50 near Old Collinsville Road.

At least two others, along with the off-duty officer, noticed the man was unresponsive in his car and unable to unlock his vehicle. The group broke out a window of the vehicle, safely removed the driver and began CPR efforts.

Within minutes O’Fallon officers and EMS crews arrived on scene and took over life saving measures. The rescued driver was then rushed to a hospital, and is now awake and breathing on his own.

The O’Fallon Police Department credits the Good Samaritans for their actions. “Fantastic Job by everyone involved,” O’Fallon PD said in a Facebook post .

“We were unable to identify all the citizens who made the choice to help someone in need. We hope that this post finds its way to them so they can know they helped SAVE A LIFE today.”
