ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police are seeking three suspects after a robbery in Forest Park over the weekend.

According to a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, a 47-year-old was robbed while sitting on a park bench outside The Muny on Sunday around 12 p.m.

The three suspects, wearing all dark clothing, approached the victim from behind, police said. One of the men held up a handgun, and the other two men robbed the victim of his iPhone, keys, and wallet.

According to police, the men ran on foot and located the victim’s vehicle. After attempting to steal the vehicle, they were unsuccessful and ran away.

The victim ran after the three suspects, and police said one of the suspects raised a gun in the air and fired off one shot, then proceeded to point the gun at the victim.

The victim was not injured during the robbery. The police said the investigation is ongoing.

“It makes me very sad, but it also just makes me think that I need to be aware of my surroundings,” park visitor Ashley Heard said.

“It’s a bit shocking,” another park visitor, Nicholas Wagner, added. “I think chances are, they’ll be recognized by someone watching and apprehended quickly.”

He believes the surveillance images will be a helpful tool for investigators. Visitors we spoke with said they still feel safe at a park that routinely attracts big crowds.

“I definitely feel safe here,” Heard said. “I feel like there’s a lot of people walking around, so that makes me feel really safe, but just like anywhere, you always have to watch your surroundings.”

According to crime statistics from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, there have been 46 felony thefts reported in Forest Park this year, compared to 28 during the same time last year.

The department has also reported 19 auto thefts this year at the park, compared to three during the same time last year.

SLMPD said anyone with a tip about this robbery or the suspects should contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477). Tips can remain anonymous and will be rewarded.
