ST. LOUIS – Multiple hailstorms across the St. Louis area have contractors and roofing companies working around the clock to make repairs.

“This is probably one of the worst years I’ve seen in a long time as far as hailstorms,” said Mike Lumetta, Your Professional Roofer Owner.

The FOX 2 weather team said across the area there we had at least five severe weather events this summer. Some brought tennis ball-sized hailstones that damaged cars, windows, and roofs.

“Most of the time, it is an entire new roof. When that is involved, you’re also looking at gutters, gutter screens, down spouts, window screens,” said Lumetta.

He said the calls from homeowners and businesses have been nonstop. Lumetta estimated his company has repaired at least 100 homes this summer. Roofing companies across the area are reporting weeks for wait times.

“People have to be patient with how long it takes. We have acute siding shortages, we have shingles on allocation, we can’t get certain colors,” said Lumetta.

He said currently production it 24/7 for shingle manufactures in the popular colors like black, brown, or grey. He said once work begins on your home, repairs usually take a day or two for a new roof.

“On delivery of shingles, I’m usually about two to three weeks out. I’m about a month, month and a quarter, month and a half out on actually putting the roofs on,” said Lumetta.
