Rogers Co. leaders, COX begin implementing broadband internet

ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Rogers County leaders and COX Communications are bringing broadband internet to parts of the county that historically get weak signals.

Using federal American Rescue Plan funds and COX money, the first phase of broadband implementation is happening in the Briarcliff Estates, Redbud and Tacora Hills areas.

Before this project, many in the area had to use a variety of problematic and unreliable techniques to try to access the internet in their homes.

“It's not going to solve the entire county problem, but let's start with the most underserved areas. They identified five underserved areas and said here's what we can do with your money and our money,” Rogers County District 2 Commissioner Steve Hendrix said.

Roger Ramseyer with COX emphasized the impact this will have on people in those areas.

“Not just for the quality of life, entertainment and cable. But even more importantly, being able to work from home, to access telehealth alternatives and to apply for jobs,” Ramseyer said.

Other areas are being studied and identified right now.
