SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People who live in the mountains and inland valleys of San Diego County are being warned about “dangerously hot conditions” by the National Weather Service.

According to the latest updates from NWS Tuesday afternoon, an excessive heat warning remains in effect the rest of this week for areas as far east as Julian and Pine Valley, as well as the cities of Escondido, El Cajon, Santee, San Marcos, Poway and La Mesa.

High temperatures along the Interstate 15 corridor could reach the upper 90s to 100 degrees, experts say. Overnight temperatures, although cooler, will not provide much relief — the lows are expected to be in the upper 60s to low 70s, according to NWS.

The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Friday. A separate excessive heat watch will also be in place during this time for the county’s desert areas, including Ocotillo Wells and Borrego Springs.

San Diego Gas and Electric has some energy-saving tips to provide respite for both people’s homes and their bank accounts.

SDG&E advises customers to use less energy between the peak hours of 4 to 9 p.m. during hot temperatures. This is when energy demand tends to be the highest , resulting in SDG&E buying power from outside the region.

The energy company also suggests unplugging appliances and electronics when not in use to save power. According to SDG&E, unused appliances and electronics can still drain power if left plugged in, resulting in higher costs.

Experts are warning people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms and away from the sun, and check up on others.
