    76-year-old woman fatally struck by car in San Marcos

    SAN MARCOS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The sheriff’s department is investigating after a 76-year-old woman was killed while walking along a road in North County Friday night.

    Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office San Marcos Station responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Twin Oaks Valley Road and Shubin Lane in the city of San Marcos at 9:07 p.m. Friday.

    Deputies say a woman was driving on South Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos Friday night when she hit a 76-year-old woman walking along the roadway.

    The victim was taken to the Palomar Medical Center Trauma Unit for serious injuries, but later died at the hospital.

    The sheriff’s department says the driver of the car cooperated with the investigation and that alcohol was not a factor.
