HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A Whitesville man’s faith in the same lottery numbers helped him net the top prize in the Kentucky Lottery’s Cash Ball 225 game.

While the man wishes to remain anonymous, lottery officials state he went to Casey’s General Store in Beaver Dam three weeks ago to buy a ticket for the July 13th drawing.

“I really like to play Lucky for Life,” he said. “That’s my main thing. It’s fun to play. I like the scratchers too.” On this day, he chose to play Cash Ball 225.

Officials explain he played with the numbers he had been using for over ten years.

“I just played a quick pick once and kept playing those numbers”, he told lottery officials.

The man said he was sitting in his garden when he realized he had won.

“I thought, ‘hey, I played 16. I played that number too!’.” Once he started recalling those lucky numbers, he knew he was a winner. “I figured I better check my ticket,” the man said. Next, he went to the store to scan his ticket confirming his win.

According to the man, he only told one person about his big win. “I told one confidant, just in case.”

The man told officials he doesn’t have exciting plans for his winnings but does plan to retire soon. “I’m old and ready to retire. I’ll try to have some fun.”

Casey’s General Store will receive $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.
