FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A couple was charged on Wednesday after allegedly trying to pick up an unmarked package mailed to the Kentucky River Campground.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), deputies were dispatched just after noon on Wednesday to the 1400 block of Steele Branch Road in response to a report of a suspicious package.

Court documents showed that when law enforcement arrived at the campground, staff showed deputies a package with no apparent addressee.

Authorities said the package contained “a substantial amount of possible heroin or fentanyl.”

Campground staff reportedly told deputies that 52-year-old Christopher Prokop had claimed the package was his and demanded to take it.

Prokop allegedly told law enforcement that his girlfriend, 27-year-old Kirra Neal, had sent him to get the package, not knowing what was inside.

Law enforcement spoke with Neal, who allegedly told deputies that she “knowingly had the package delivered to her,” and also that “the package possibly contained Heroin or fentanyl.”

Prokop and Neal were each charged with trafficking in a controlled substance—heroin— first offense.

Prokop was lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center.
