LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Nothing shouts “summer fun” like a pool party, but one that happened on Saturday afternoon was specifically crafted for Lexington’s furry friends.

The 2024 Doggie Paddle on Saturday hosted by Southland Aquatic Center allowed local dog owners to be a part of a community event to enjoy some barking and splashing after the close of the pool season while raising funds for the Lexington Humane Society, according to event organizers.

The humane society posted on Facebook on Saturday to thank attendees and shared some photos of the poolside fun.

The Doggie Paddle was an opportunity to not only bond with your dog but also to name new friends. Event organizers said there was something for every dog and human to enjoy.

“This is our annual pool party for the dogs,” said Meghan Hawkins, director of community engagement for the Lexington Humane Society. “Being a nonprofit, it’s crucial that we do fundraisers like this to raise money for the animals, and it’s a fun one. So we wait until the pool is closed for the season and dogs are able to swim, not humans. And then that way it’s ready to go be drained for next season.”

Hawkins said over 900 dogs were pre-registered for Saturday’s fundraiser. All the proceeds were donated to the Lexington Humane Society, per organizers.
