LUDLOW, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Ludlow man’s gamble worked out in his favor when he decided to put some of his lottery winnings toward another ticket.

Albert Turner told lottery officials that he plays the Kentucky Lottery “somewhat regularly.” After he won $50 on a scratch-off earlier in August, he decided to put $10 of his winnings toward another ticket.

“I don’t always scratch them off, I just scan them,” Turner said. “I scanned it [the ticket], and it said ‘See Clerk Corp.’”

He initially thought there was a scanner issue, so he decided to scratch it off. Turner told lottery officials that’s when he saw he hit the $175,000 jackpot.

“I couldn’t catch my breath,” he said. “I ran home and signed the back of it.”

When Turner returned home, his wife was initially concerned because “he was so pale.”

“I hit big,” he told her. “My heart was crawling out of my throat.”

Turner posted on social media later in the day that it was the best day of his life and he had won the lottery. He told Kentucky Lottery officials that many were curious about how much he’d won.

“I just told them $1,000,” he joked.

The secret is out, and Turner walked away with a $123,000 check. The couple said the win couldn’t have come at a better time and plan to take a vacation after paying off their bills.
