Chocolate returns! Missing turtle reunited with Louisville Nature Center, Jack still missing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — One of two box turtles that went missing from the Louisville Nature Center (LNC) over the weekend was returned to his home Thursday night.

The nature reserve posted on Facebook that Chocolate the turtle was returned Thursday night by a good Samaritan. “He realized Chocolate would not be able to survive on his own and brought him home to care for him,” LNC said.

Since his return, Chocolate has made himself at home with LNC staff. “Chocolate has eaten SIX worms today and had a bath and a nap, and is so happy to be with his turtle friends again.”

LNC staff are still reportedly searching for Jack, the other turtle who was allegedly stolen when the turtle enclosure was broken into over the weekend.

The nature reserve posted on Facebook that it is raising funds to “rebuild our turtle habitat so this never happens again!” According to LNC staff, a portion of the money gained from the fundraiser will also go to creating “an animal care fund for all our animal ambassadors.”
