JACKSON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A former farm supply store in Jackson caught on fire early Saturday morning, leading to emergency personnel closing down Lower Main Street to battle the blaze.

The Jackson Fire Department posted on Facebook that just after 4 a.m. on Saturday, Lower Main Street (Hwy 1812) was closed to traffic while crews extinguished a commercial fire.

Jessica Shimfessel, who told FOX 56 News her grandfather once owned the store, said, “It was not only a business but a gathering place for many people in the community. Everyone stopped by for a cup of coffee and to sit around and talk. I think it’ll be hard on not just us as his family but his friends as well. Even though he’s gone it was nice to have a piece of him left but now there’s nothing.”
