    Man sentenced to 20-years in prison for role in London officer’s death

    LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The Tennessee man charged in the death of London police officer Logan Medlock learned his fate on Monday.

    Casey Byrd , 37, of Oneida, Tennessee, appeared in court for sentencing on Monday after being found guilty of murder of a police officer, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief charges on Aug. 9.

    According to Tammy Lakes, administration assistant at the Laurel County Circut Clerk’s Office, Byrd was sentenced to the recommended 20 years in prison.

    In October 2022, Byrd was charged after speeding and crashing into Medlock’s police cruiser in London. Court records show Byrd failed a Breathalyzer test , blowing .294. Medlock was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    Medlock served as a London police officer for three years and previously worked at the Laurel County Correctional Center, Keavy Fire Department, and as a firefighter for the City of London Police Department.
