WOOTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Wooton man has been charged in connection to a deadly shooting investigation by Kentucky State Police (KSP) and the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court documents, troopers at KSP Post 13 in Hazard were dispatched just after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday in response to “a female in the roadway yelling for help.”

When troopers arrived at the scene, KSP said 49-year-old Mary Andrews of London was found in a home with a gunshot wound. Andrews was taken to Mary Breckinridge Hospital where she reportedly died from her injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Andrews’ boyfriend, 54-year-old William Pennington of Wooton allegedly shot Andrews, according to authorities.

Court documents show that Andrews and Pennington allegedly had a “verbal argument” after which Andrews had allegedly “been fatally shot in the back of the head by a gun possessed by William Pennington.”

Pennington was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter and lodged in the Leslie County Detention Center.
