Doug Gottlieb: Brian Flores is a Bad Belichick Clone, Not a Racism Victim

( Tua Tagovailoa on the Dan Le Batard Show ) “If you woke up every morning and I told you, you sucked at what you did, that you don’t belong doing what you do, that you shouldn’t be here, that this guy should be here, you haven’t earned this right. Then you have someone else come in and say, ‘Dude, you’re the best fit for this, you are accurate, you’re the best whatever, you are this, you are that.’ How would it make you feel listening to one or the other? You see what I am saying? You hear it, regardless of what it is the good or the bad. You hear it more and more you start to actually believe that. I don’t care who you are. You can be the president of the United States, you have a terrible person telling you things you don’t want to hear or things you shouldn’t be hearing, you are going to start to believe that about yourself. That’s sort of what ended up happening. It’s been two years of training that out of, not just me, but of guys that have been here since my rookie year.”

Doug Gottlieb: “A couple years ago, Brian Flores was fired by the Miami Dolphins... Then many people said Flores being told by Bill Belichick that he was getting the Giants job [when Belichick accidentally meant to text Brian Daboll] before Flores ever interviewed for the Giants job was seen as some sort of ‘racism’. I tried to inform people how comical and ludicrous those assertions were. If you knew who he was working for in Miami -- his entire front office in Miami was Black. If you read the reports and talked to people, and understood that he came from the Bill Belichick tree -- you knew how this thing was going down.
If you look at the New York Giants job, the change in Josh Allen was so apparent that you wanted that offensive coordinator [Daboll] to be your guy. You want to draft a new quarterback, you had to have a new system, and the quarterback whisperer was your guy, as opposed to Brian Flores, who had major trouble, a new offensive coordinator every year, couldn’t get along with offensive coordinators, apparently couldn’t get along with the front office, and then he clearly did not think that Tua Tagovailoa was good enough. But because Brian Flores sued the league for discrimination, and because Brian Flores hasn’t gotten a job since despite the fact he was an outstanding defensive coordinator, there was this overall sense of ‘WELL, HE GOT FIRED BECAUSE OF RACISM!’
If you wanna know why he lost the job, just listen to Tua and what he said to Dan Le Batard. I think he was just going and ranting but he called him a ‘terrible person.’ That’s how he described Brian Flores, and that he killed his confidence. When you’re coaching, coaching ‘confidence’ is actually job number one. It is a really hard thing, and players of today are different.
The problem with so many Patriots assistants is that they walk in and carry themselves as if they’re Bill Belichick, not understanding that Bill Belichick had earned that respect over 20+ years of success, and had just the right player in Tom Brady to coach just the right way. He was the toughest on Tom Brady but Tom Brady could take it. So many of these guys have gone down and done their Belichick impression and it DOESN’T WORK.
Your ability to maintain the respect of your quarterback, to get the best out of him, to coach him hard but fair – that is usually what determines your success in the National Football League. For anybody who says Brian Flores hasn't gotten any of these jobs because the color of his skin, that simply means they haven’t called Miami, because this is what they have told everybody without saying it on camera.
Good for Tua, but tough for Flores. Good look getting a head coaching job now when you were called a ‘terrible person’ by Tua Tagovailoa.”

Watch Doug Gottlieb of Fox Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show discuss the recent ‘he’s a terrible person’ comments Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said about former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores , as Gottlieb says it’s just more proof that Flores’ controversial firing in Miami after just one season had nothing to do with ‘racism’ like Flores has long alleged.

Check out the segment above as Gottlieb details the real reasons why it didn’t work out for Flores in Miami, and why he hasn’t gotten any looks at a head coaching position ever since.
