    Denver weather: Strong storms could produce large hail, Pinpoint Weather Alert Day

    DENVER ( KDVR ) — Rain and storms are on the way Monday as high temperatures are expected to top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s in the Denver weather forecast.

    Monday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as some storms could be severe, especially across northeast Colorado where there is a slight risk for severe weather.

    Weather today: Warm with showers and storms

    Temperatures on Monday will be closer to seasonal in the upper 80s and low 90s.

    Denver will also see its best chance of rain for the week with late afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected.

    The severe weather risk is a level two out of five, with the largest concern being the potential for gusty winds and hail.

    According to the Pinpoint Weather team, between 1-2 p.m., storms will develop in the foothills, and by 3 p.m., the storms will move into the metro before entering the Eastern Plains in the evening.

    Heavy downpours are possible, but hail will be the biggest threat.

    According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, funnels or landspouts (short, weak tornadoes) could develop Monday afternoon in the area from Peoria down south to Simla .

    Weather tonight: Lingering storms, then clearing

    Monday night, the showers and storms start moving out of the picture with the last of them wrapping up before 10 p.m. in the metro area. Look for skies to clear out rapidly as overnight low temperatures sink into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

    Looking ahead: Summer heat hanging on

    Temperatures through the upcoming week will remain warmer than normal with highs during the first half of the week in the lower and middle 90s. Tuesday looks to be dry, but showers and storm chances return on Wednesday which should also be the hottest day of the week.

    The heat lets up on Wednesday with temperatures in the upper 80s. The second half of the week will see temperatures level off on either side of 90 degrees.
