Take a look inside: Denver Public Library to reopen soon after major renovations

DENVER ( KDVR ) — After years of renovations, the Central Library near Civic Center Park is almost done with construction. Soon, it will be open to the public.

The library said the project started in 2017 when voters approved a measure to give $69.3 million to renovate the Central Library and 10 other branch libraries as part of the Elevate Denver Bond program.

By 2020, construction started on the almost 80-year-old library.

Since then, space at the Central Library has been limited while the construction completely changed the look of the eight-story building.

If you’ve been to the downtown Denver location before, by the time you’re inside again, the library will look completely different. Here’s a look inside the space after construction.

The library said it renovated the bathrooms, moved the children’s library, updated the teen library, created an event space with a two-story high ceiling, changed the hidden escalators into a grand staircase, removed old flooring and added many meeting and study rooms.

The library even added a snowmelt system to its sidewalks.

By the time it’s done, many of the sections will have been rearranged and there will be a new bookstore and coffee shop area.

The library told FOX31 that the team is still working on interior enhancements like recarpeting, painting, moving furniture and other final touches. The library said it plans on fully reopening to the public in November.
