    2 pedestrians struck by vehicles near crosswalks in Lafayette within 24 hours

    DENVER ( KDVR ) — The City of Lafayette is looking into more safety measures after two juvenile pedestrians were hit by vehicles on separate occasions at nearby signaled crosswalks.

    The Lafayette Police Department reported that both were hit less than 24 hours apart in similar locations along Baseline Road west of 95th Street.

    One person was hit on Thursday afternoon while crossing Baseline Road at King Street .

    The other victim was involved in a hit-and-run on Friday morning while trying to cross Baseline Road at Roser Drive. The suspected driver in the second incident was located, according to police.

    During the crashes, the city said the flashing signal equipment at the crosswalks were both in working order.

    The department is investigating both incidents, but the city is also looking into other ways to make this corridor in Lafayette safer. The city said it completed the first phase of public engagement for its Transportation Safety Action Plan , but they are still looking into more safety measures for this area.

    Especially with school back in session, the city is asking drivers to be alert, follow speed limits, stay off their cell phones and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.
