Motorcyclist seriously injured in Saturday night Independence crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Independence Police Department is investigating the cause of a Saturday night motorcycle crash after one person was hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to IPD, just before 7:45 p.m., a 2023 KTM motorcycle was headed eastbound on US 24 Highway. As the motorcycle traveled, a 2008 Mercury SUV headed northbound on Little Blue Parkway began making a left turn toward westbound US 24 Highway.

As the car turned, witnesses said the motorcycle didn’t stop at a red light and hit the driver’s side of the Mercury.

IPD said the driver of the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries from the crash and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the Mercury remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to officers.

The crash remains under investigation by the IPD Crash Investigations Unit.
