KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee, Kansas Police Department is investigating after 10 cars were broken into over the span of four hours near Monticello Road and Woodland Drive.

According to officers, the burglaries took place between 1 and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Shawnee police said the suspects entered both locked and unlocked cars and stole items like backpacks, wallets, debit/credit cards, cash, and a handgun.

“This is surprising because it’s very quiet. There’s not a lot of this that happens, and as many (cars) as they hit in one night was kind of surprising,” said Jacob Angell, who lives in the neighborhood.

One neighbor who has lived in the area for over three decades told FOX4 that car break-ins have been a problem in the otherwise quiet neighborhood for several years.

“It’s definitely been an ongoing issue and problem out here in western Shawnee. Before the other night, my next-door neighbor’s truck had been broken into; my neighbor’s truck across the street was broken into in previous break-ins,” said Todd Molz, who lives in the neighborhood. “It’s definitely a concern, and I’m definitely concerned about not having enough police presence out in this area.”

The police department is asking for help identifying these suspects caught on video surveillance :
