TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is ordering flags to fly at half-staff statewide later this month.

Kelly made the announcement on Tuesday, Aug. 27 that flags are to fly at half-staff from sunup to sundown on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024. This is to honor former chief judge of the Kansas Court of Appeals Gary Rulon.

Denial recommended for potential homeless shelter in Lenexa

“From his time in the Navy to his tenure on the bench, Judge Rulon spent his life in service to Kansas and our country,” Kelly said. “He undoubtedly touched the lives of many. My thoughts and condolences go out to his loved ones.”

Kelly gave a separate flag order last week to honor the passing of Kansas State Representative Marvin Robinson.
