KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed one pedestrian early Sunday morning.

According to KCPD, at about 12:45 a.m., a Honda Civic was driving northbound on Van Brunt Boulevard when the car came to a stop at a red light.

After the light turned green, the Honda entered the intersection as a BMW 535XI speeding westbound on Truman Road ran the red light and hit the side of the Honda.

KCPD said the BMW then lost control of the car and drove off the road before hitting a wooden utility pole, sending it to the ground.

As the crash took place, a pedestrian walking in the south side bike lane of Truman Road was hit by the BMW as it was flipping, KCPD said.

According to officers, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two occupants in the BMW fled from the crash westbound on Truman Road. KCPD has not confirmed whether they have been found or detained.

The driver of the Honda was not injured in the crash, and repairs were made at the intersection to bring back power after the utility pole went down.
