1 dead after road rage shooting in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — Officials with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting that reportedly occurred Sunday evening.

According to the office, the shooting reportedly occurred in the 6000 block of East 900 South at around 10:16 p.m. on Sunday.

A news release from Grant County said that a 911 caller told dispatch that he had fired shots into a semi-tractor-vehicle hauler after the semi-driver reportedly pointed a weapon that had a laser light at him. This comes after a road rage incident that occurred on I-69 earlier that evening.

After the shooting, the semi-tractor trailer reportedly caught on fire after it struck a silo in a cornfield in the 5000 block of East 975 South. The semi traveled around 2/3 of a mile through three cornfields from where the shooting occurred.

As first responders fought the fire, a dead body was found inside the cab of the semi-truck. A death investigation is ongoing, according to the release.

The investigation into the incident remains active as deputies continue speaking with witnesses. The Grant County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene and is expected to conduct an autopsy in the coming days. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was also called to assist.

No arrests have been made in connection to the fatal road rage shooting.
