INDIANAPOLIS — A man was charged after he was found living in someone else’s garage on the near southeast side of Indy, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Andrew Rodriguez, 42, was arrested for Burglary, a Level 5 Felony.

IMPD was dispatched to investigate a possible disturbance in the 1100 block of E Morris St. Upon arrival to the scene, the responding officer noticed a male waving frantically. The man motioned for the officer to come to the back of the home because he had caught an individual in his garage and was holding the suspect down on the ground in the backyard. The suspect, Rodriguez, was wearing a ski mask when he was placed in handcuffs by the officer.

During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that the homeowner had not been in the garage for several days, but when he went to check on his hot tub, he heard a noise coming from the garage. While walking towards the garage, Rodriguez walked out carrying a paintball gun and wearing a ski mask, which he initially believed to be a real weapon. The homeowner then grabbed Rodriguez and held him down.

Further, officers found that Rodriguez had the homeowner’s credit card, was wearing his shoes when he was caught, and had placed several bottles of urine in the garage.

This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
