INDIANAPOLIS – GetGo convenience stores will soon have a new owner.

Giant Eagle, the chain’s parent company, reached an agreement to sell its approximately 270 retail and fueling locations to international company Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (Couche-Tard), which is known for operating Circle K convenience stores in the Midwest.

The deal involves GetGo locations in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland. The stores employ about 3,500 people.

Giant Eagle said the move will allow it to focus on its role as a “leading regional grocery and pharmacy.” The transition will not affect operations at the Carmel and Westfield Market District locations, the company said.

Giant Eagle will continue to operate GetGo until the transaction closes. The new owner is expected to retain “all dedicated GetGo store, operations and support Team Members as a part of this transaction.”

The companies will keep running the myPerks loyalty program as the new ownership explores “opportunities to expand the program to unlock even more value and discounts for our customers.”

Couche-Tard has 16,700 stores in 31 countries and territories, with significant presences in the U.S., Canada, Scandinavia, the Baltics, Belgium and Ireland. It employs about 149,000 people worldwide.

The sale is expected to close next year and is subject to FTC approval and other conditions.
