GREENE COUNTY, Ind. — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that left a motorcyclist dead on Saturday.

Per the GCSO, the deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on South County Road 800 West just north of County Road 300 South. Upon arrival, police discovered that a vehicle had collided with a motorcycle.

After an investigation, law enforcement determined the driver of a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulled onto CR 800 W from an access road before the crash happened. Soon after the driver of the truck made it onto CR 800 W, he noticed a motorcyclist driving toward him at a high rate of speed.

The truck driver’s view was partially blocked by high vegetation before he pulled onto CR 800 W, per the GCSO.

The sheriff’s office reported that the truck driver attempted to back his vehicle up, and the motorcyclist tried to maneuver around him. The motorcycle, however, ended up striking the front passenger corner of the truck, leading the motorcyclist to lose control and be ejected from his bike.

The motorcyclist and his bike eventually came to rest in a nearby soybean field after the crash. GSCO indicated that, while the truck’s driver was not injured, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

GCSO identified the decedent as 24-year-old Maverick Johnson of Lyons.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police are still actively investigation the crash. As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
