INDIANAPOLIS — Police have launched a homicide investigation on the south side of Indianapolis.

According to a press release, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 2300 block of Pagoda Drive just before 3 a.m. on a report of a person down. When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with injuries officials described as being “consistent with trauma.”

IMPD reported that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide detectives then responded to the area to begin an investigation.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency was also called to the scene to help identify and collect evidence.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the man Monday as 39-year-old John P. Hamby III and ruled his death a homicide.

Garfield Park is located in the 2300 block of Pagoda Drive. Police did not specify whether or not they found the decedent at Garfield Park or near the park.

IMPD is asking those with information to contact Detective Kyle Hoover at (317) 327-3475 or Kyle.Hoover@indy.gov. Alternatively, tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477, www.CrimeTips.org or via the P3Tips mobile app.

Anonymous tips that lead to felony arrests may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000.
