FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 50-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina, woman died Wednesday afternoon in a four-vehicle pileup on Interstate 95 near Florence, according to the county coroner.

Michelle Lehnhardt Clelland died in the crash, Coroner Keith von Lutcken said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Clelland was driving a 2021 Nissan Rouge.

The crash blocked the northbound lanes of I-95 near Florence for several hours Wednesday afternoon. At least one person was injured and taken by EMS to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, the highway patrol said.

It happened at about 3 p.m. about 2 miles north of Florence between mile-markers 169 and 170, the highway patrol said. All four vehicles involved in the crash — a 2002 Toyota Tundra, a 2021 Nissan Rogue, a 2017 Toyota Corolla and a 2010 Ford F-350 pickup — were traveling north.

No details about how the crash happened were immediately available.

Von Lutcken told News13 Wednesday night that one person died in the crash and that several others sustained “significant injuries.” He said an unknown number of people were taken to area hospitals.

No additional information was immediately available. The highway patrol is investigating.
