DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Multiple Triad law enforcement agencies collaborated to make arrests in 96 home break-in cases across multiple Triad counties, Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons announced in a Monday morning press conference.

Christo’s in Lexington significantly damaged by fire, officials say

    Background

On Aug. 15, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that they were working with surrounding agencies to obtain search warrants for suspects from Winston-Salem who were suspected to be committing break-ins across the following counties:

    • Forsyth County
    • Stokes County
    • Yadkin County
    • Davie County
    • Davidson County
    • Rowan County

According to the post, the suspects would knock or ring doorbells before kicking in the door if no one answered. Most of the break-ins would take place during working hours Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

YCSO said almost all of the break-ins in Yadkin were in the eastern half of the county.

A victim told FOX8 that it was a “terrifying” experience.

“I was at school open house with my kids and saw them kick my door in on our front porch camera. I’m glad they’ve been caught now, maybe I’ll eventually be comfortable in my own home again,” the unidentified victim said.

    Arrests made

During Monday’s press conference, Simmons announced there are over 300 charges involved in the case.

Representatives from the following law enforcement agencies were present:

    • Davidson County Sheriff’s Office
    • Stokes County Sheriff’s Office
    • Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office
    • Davie County Sheriff’s Office
    • Winston-Salem Police Department
    • Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office
    • Madison Police Department

Simmons said the break-ins spread into northern Davidson County and southern Forsyth County.

The items stolen included jewelry, collectible coins, cash and guns. People and even children were present in the homes during some of the break-ins.

Simmons says the investigation blew open on Aug. 1 when they apprehended a vehicle connected to an attempted break-in.

Over 96 cases are connected to the arrests that were made and there are over 300 charges involved.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be forthcoming.
