MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man accused of hitting a trooper in the face after being stopped for speeding has been charged with driving while impaired on Sunday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 4:55 p.m., a trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on I-73 near mile marker 46 in Montgomery County.

The vehicle was slow to stop before pulling over to the right shoulder of I-73.

The trooper asked the driver, later identified as Clint Andrew Snipes, 24, of Rockingham, to get out of the vehicle. While the trooper tried to detain him, Snipes hit the trooper in the face.

A struggle began, and Snipes was taken into custody after Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene.

The trooper and Snipes were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and later released.

Snipes was later taken to the Montgomery County Jail where he was charged with driving while impaired.

Additional charges will be forthcoming, troopers say.
