Patriots LB Matthew Judon opens up about trade rumors amid contract uncertainly

Matthew Judon knows his worth and wants to be paid what he deserves.

However, his contract discussions with the New England Patriots so far have not resulted in a deal that he wants.

So if the Patriots don't pay him, could a trade be in the talks? And would Judon be open to that.

"Do I want to be traded? Hell no," Judon told reporters after Wednesday's training camp practice . "I feel like when you're traded, you don't got no say so. They just come tell you, 'hey, you leaving.'

"I think they know I don't want to be traded honestly."

The narrative of a possible Judon trade went viral about the linebacker's X, formerly known as Twitter, account reposted a trade proposal sending him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for star receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

"I told y'all I don't run my Twitter. So people be tweeting stuff and I be reading this stuff, but I don't run my Twitter," Judon reminded reporters.

As for why he wants to stay in New Englan d, Judon answered it in a way only he could pull off.

"Honestly, I'm lazy so I don't want to move again," Judon started by saying. However, he quickly went into the real reason.

"But it's the locker room. My teammates," he added. "So it's not just me that wants to stay. It's a lot of guys that played a lot of good football around here that want to be around this organization, want to be in Foxborough. You know, even though it's raining on the first day of camp. We want to be out here. We want to be close...

"It's a lot of guys that get in here and get in the locker room and they get addicted to it. It's an addicting locker room. It's an addicting culture in here. And that's why I want to be around. And we communicate football on the defensive end at a very high level. And I love it."

Judon wants to be a Patriots and says he will play on his current contract if he absolutely has to. However, his hope is to get a deal done and continue playing in Foxborough.

Now we just wait and see.

Here is everything Matthew Judon told reporters about his contract discussions with the Patriots:

How important was it for you to be out here today ?

JUDON: "I haven't played football in so long. It was important for me to just get back out here with the guys. I did mandatory minicamp, but just start getting on the right foot. Especially with all the guys. I just miss football for real, honestly."

How are you feeling about the new season?

JUDON "I'm feeling great. I'm feeling great about the new guys. My health, I feel good. Body, I feel great. I rehabbed the injury very hard, very intense, very focused. So throughout the offseason, I got to just work on full body and just not trying to get back. I had enough time to heal myself and step away from the game of football to get right."

Any update on the status of your contract?

JUDON: "Y'all be knowing before me, but honestly it's tough going into the last year of the deal. You kind of look at everybody around the league and in the building and you see them getting deals done. It worked out. And it's tough to not be jealous or envious or something like that. But honestly, I got to focus on myself. And I'm happy for those guys and as much as everybody wants to see me stay around here for a long time, it's really not up to me. I'd pay myself a lot of money and stay around here for a long time, but it's not up to me. So you got to ask those guys that's making those decisions. And they trying to do what's best for the team, rightfully so and understandably. So they're trying to put us in the right spot to win games and leverage everybody's contract in the right situation. Make sure the salary cap is right, so where if we get in a tough spot later on in the year, we can sign players and whatnot. But if it's up to me, I'd pay myself a lot of money. And then just be cool with it."

Are you optimistic you can get a deal done?

JUDON: Me? Y'all get to talk to me. I don't even know if you get to talk to those guys. But y'all get to talk to me and if it was me, now, I'd love to stay here forever. But it's not up to me.

What is it about here that makes you want to stay forever?

JUDON: "Honestly, I'm lazy so I don't want to move again. But it's the locker room. My teammates. (Deatrich) Wise, I hang around him in the offseason because he a good dude. We kept a guy like Matthew Slater around. That speaks volumes about the organization. (Dont'a) Hightower came back. So it's not just me that wants to stay. It's a lot of guys that played a lot of good football around here that want to eb around this organization, want to be in Foxborough. You know, even though it's raining on the first day of camp. We want to be out here. We want to be close. And you see a guy like Josh Uche that signs back and he says it's because of the people in the locker room. You see Anfernee (Jennings) sign back, and it's because of the guys in the locker room and what he can learn and what he can prove. Jonathan Jones been here, going on nine years. It's a lot of guys that get in here and get in the locker room and they get addicted to it. It's an addicting locker room. It's an addicting culture in here. And that's why I want to be around. And we communicate football on the defensive end at a very high level. And I love it."

The other day you retweeted a tweet proposing a trade with the San Francisco 49ers . Do you want to be traded?

Would you welcome a trade to a contender?

JUDON: "Nah. It isn't up to me. I'll be telling my daughter this, you're nine years old. You can only control what you can control. It is so much stuff that goes on in our lives day to day that we have to respond to, and if I'm traded, that's not up to me. I'm responding to all the variables in my life. And as a dad, as a son, as a brother in law, as an uncle, and as a football player as well, all this stuff was given to me. God blessed me with a lot of talent and a lot attributes, and a lot of charisma, and all that stuff. But that's one thing that I don't get to control. So if I got to San Francisco or I've seen trades to Atlanta, Detroit, all that stuff. The stuff you see, I see as well. But I just don't buy into it and once they tell me I'm going that's when I'm going... I'm going to still have respect and come out here and do my job because it's not up to me."

Would you play on your current contract?

JUDON: "I mean, if I got to, honestly. That's again, like I signed a deal. My signature is on it. So I got to play on it. Would I like to? No. Do I think that's my value? No. But again that's not up to me."

Have you been told that there won't be a deal for you this year?

JUDON: "No."

So are you optimistic that it can still happen?

"Hey, y'all know what Matt Groh look like and Eliot (Wolf). They walk out here in front of y'all every day. If y'all can, pull them to the side and ask them. And ask them just to have a real conversation with them. Don't be a reporter, have a real conversation with them. And if they give y'all that time, that's when you'll get all your answers. But y'all can't get no answers out of me because they talking to my agent and then I get to. So I hope I can play here this year. I hope I can continue to wear red sleeves, continue to contribute on defense, be a catalyst to one of the best defenses in the league since I've been here and for a very long time. But if that's not the case, that's not the case.
